Identity Is A Fundamental Part Of Our Lives - 1442 Words

Identity is a fundamental part of our lives. Our actions define our identity and it defines our actions. Living in a challenging and changing world, means that at some point in life, people struggle to discover who they might be. Rummens (1993) defines identity as a distinct characteristic belonging to a particular individual or shared by individuals of the same group. There are mainly three different types of identity such as individual identity, social identity and collective identity (Thompson, 2012). Thompson states the first one-individual identity-refers to everything that helps to identify who you are, for example, passport, national insurance number, biometric data, birth certificate, friends, relationships and family. Thompson†¦show more content†¦First, which aspects of our identity can we not control. Second, in which ways might external influences affect our identity. It follows from the above that identity can be changed in part, but it is difficult to control it. This essay will look at the issue of identity in relation to fashion and social media. It is widely acknowledged that there is a relationship between fashion and identity. Kaiser (2013) claims that fashion is inseparably linked with how we construct and reconstruct our identity. It is through appearance styles that individuals express their personalities. They express â€Å"who they are or who they want or do not want to become†. This idea is supported by Richmond (2008) who claims that as individuals we are constantly looking for what is missing in our lives. It can be said that that individuals pursuit objects that are appealing for them. This objects, in this case clothes, can help them to create an image of how they want others to see them, and to make them being acknowledged. However, the problem is that individuals that use fashion to express themselves might be controlled by the fashion industry. Seo (2012) cited on Not Just a Label (2014), supports the above by saying that fashion is more commercial than ever before full of pre-existing designers and b rands. These markets change every season, so if an individual follows a determined type of brand to express oneself and this brand is

Marco Polo s Travels Over The Maritime Route - 1009 Words

Introduction Thirteenth century Europe was marked by a period curiosity of life outside the western world. Little was known of the cultures in Asia and Southeast Asia. This changed when Venetian trader and explorer, Marco Polo published his travelogue accounting for his voyages in the east. Polo was extremely influential to geography, Europe’s trade industry, as well as to future curious travelers. He was the first explorer to travel as far as China and report of his findings. Consequently, seldom was known of the customs and cultures abroad. Marco traveled from Venice to China using both the Maritime route, as well as the Silk Road. For this paper however, I am solely focusing on Marco Polo’s travels over the Maritime route. More specifically, his reports of the coastal trade, customs, and cultures he encountered through this journey. Provinces of India, the coastal islands of Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and China will be discussed, along with background i nformation of Polo, his itinerary, and an analysis of his findings. Saving My First Kiss free essay sample

Saving My First Kiss BY tnxxte37 Why Im keeping confetti in my closet Saving my first kiss is what I strongly cherish, value and believe in. Even before having read the book, my lips are one of the things I keep untouched, purposely holding back the gift of my first kiss. This is so because, growing up, me, my cousins and my friends always talked and told stories about fairytales and how one kiss can change everything. Obviously, I grew up believing that there would be this someone special who would come along, sweep me off my feet and with Just this one kiss we would know that we were both meant for each other. Now, definitely, having strong feelings for such a dream, I do believe that everything would be worth the wait. This definitely set my standards high. I wanted someone whos caring, intelligent, charming, good-looking, good in sports, crazy on the dance floor, sweet with his vocals, responsible, sweet, rich, tall, practically all the positive things one girl could ever look for, name it and it was on my list. She introduced me to practically everything I know tackling social life. She was the one who brought me along to parties, bars, out-of-towns, out-of-the-country trips, escapades and a lot more. She opened up my eyes to see the reality of things and how modern days are. I was like her mentee and she was my mentor. With her, I felt so much open to the world and liberated. I had the time of my life with the experiences and encounters I had with her. And yet to think, despite all those xperiences and vices, she still remained pure in mind, heart and body. She was branded as the NBSB or more known as no-boyfriend-since-birth and was also known among her barkada or clique as the virgin-from-head-to-toe and the never been kissed girl. She became my hero ever since then, the person IVe been looking up to. To think, shes now married to her first and last everything with their first-born son, Iago and happier than ever. Now, back to the book, Saving my first kiss, why Im keeping confetti in my closet was a gift for my sweet sixteen, given by her and it meant much more knowing that IVe gotten it from her. It stood as like our promise that we would stand by for each other, never give up and always believe that in this life, anything is possible, especially when you believe. I have chosen a few excerpts from the book that pretty much sums up the whole relationship that could fade, Im learning how to fill my life with things that can bring true contentment things that will last forever. Instead of defining myself by the number of boyfriends, dates, kisses that I have had (or, havent had), Im finding that my true identity comes from being a daughter of God. Although it often seems impossible to move beyond Never Been Kissed, I know that I must seek to do so. No matter how much my loneliness consumes me, I must strive to get past it. I must become more than my dating status. Despite my inexperience in romance, life doesnt seem empty anymore. And even though Im still waiting to be kissed, I understand what it is to feel like a treasure. , Possibly more than anything else, longing for romance can make us lose sight of opportunities at the roadside. Because the idea of having a significant other is so exciting to us, its easy to let omance be the only thing we look for in life. and When we step back and begin to see the big picture, everything changes. We start to see the color in other areas. As we become less focused on romance, we are able to watch as God fills different places of our lives. A book that is very fun to read and makes you eager to know more not Just all about saving your first kiss but also about a lot of things in a girls life. Talking about relationships, love life and first kisses, and also all about finding out who we really are and finding happiness where we least expected to look. To think, she created this idea of having a party as a way for celebrating not only for her first unpuckering and presenting of her lips to Mr. Right but also for the time that she waited, found happiness in more important things and valuing her whole being. She made waiting for that someone special fun, interesting and shockingly addictive. It gives us the slap in the face that most girls need nowadays to realize that happiness lies within us and were Just blinded by the idea of happiness coming only from the opposite sex and the reality of it all is that we are all happy and we Just ave to see it. Seeing the good things in life, seeing the beauty of life, being able to love life and not live love. Nowadays, who wouldVe thought that was possible right? Lisas book and ate Maes story gave me the strength to keep strong with my dreams and hold on tight because one day Ill know that everything was worth the wait. This essay is my original work. On the other hand, something that is inedible refers to something that is not fit for human consumption disregarding the notion of taste. Part 2 3. Why should we study food and culture? What does the folklorist bring to its study? Food is a basic and necessary requirement in our society. It is necessary because it contributes to human beings’ existence. In relation to culture, food is defined by a variety of normal cultural structures. These cultural structures are what we eat, the way we eat, with whom do we eat and when we eat. Concerning culture, lack of resources such as transportation facilities limited the mobility of food in historical context hence associating food with place. Furthermore, food is associated with place depending on its availability through trade. For instance, barter trades were common in past societies and they usually involved the exchange of various goods, which mostly comprised foodstuffs. In the past, there were limited methods of storing food. Because of this, food, which is a perishable good, spoiled. Thus, food is associated with time and season. For instance, specific foods such as maize and wheat go through different times of harvests. Moreover, environmental change co mprising the change in seasons influences the perishability and storage of food. Moreover, food is related to tradition because of the passing down of cooking as a skill from elders to novices. This can be identified by eating particular foods at a particular time because other related people did so. For instance, the Thanksgiving Dinner is a tradition that was passed down from the Pilgrims to the modern American society. Food is also associated with belief because the rules governing dietary are often dictated through prescriptions such as religious interdictions. Such interdictions refer to foods that are forbidden. For instance, the Islam religion forbids the consumption of pork. Moreover, belief also extends to non-religious proscriptions. This can be identified by the non-consumption of beef and beef related products by vegetarians. Food is essential to survival therefore, it is associated with corporeality. Consequently, food is associated with hospitality because it is costly . Food is also associated with nutrition because people require certain varieties of food to be healthy. For instance, balanced diets are emphasized in relation to consumption in order to encourage healthy lifestyles and restrict consumption of unnecessary or dangerous food. The folklorist attempts to identify the artistic communication involved among individuals and groups in an informal setting. In relation to food, the folklorist tries to identify the various aesthetic components comprising food in relation to diverse groups based on the food consumed. For instance, the folklorist attempts to identify folklore in a typical sandwich. By understanding the creation and consumption of the snack, the folklorist deduces that sandwiches are personal and aesthetic expectations. Sandwiches are also perceived to be informal because the instructions for their construction are transmitted through informal channels. Snadwiches are also deemed to be democratic and appear in popular cultures. Sandwiches are also authentic despite being in a popular culture. Thus, folklorists attach anthropological and deep meaning respective of culture to various objects such as food in the society.

Polyprotic Acid Example Chemistry Problem

Polyprotic Acid Example Chemistry Problem A polyprotic acid is an acid that can donate more than one hydrogen atom (proton) in an aqueous solution. To find the pH of this type of acid, its necessary to know the dissociation constants for each hydrogen atom. This is an example of how to work a polyprotic acid chemistry problem. Polyprotic Acid Chemistry Problem Determine the pH of a 0.10 M solution of H2SO4. Given: Ka2 1.3 x 10-2 Solution H2SO4 has two H (protons), so it is a diprotic acid that undergoes two sequential ionizations in water: First ionization: H2SO4(aq) → H(aq) HSO4-(aq) Second ionization: HSO4-(aq) ⇔ H(aq) SO42-(aq) Note that sulfuric acid is a strong acid, so its first dissociation approaches 100%. This is why the reaction is written using → rather than ⇔. The HSO4-(aq) in the second ionization is a weak acid, so the H is in equilibrium with its conjugate base. Ka2 [H][SO42-]/[HSO4-] Ka2 1.3 x 10-2 Ka2 (0.10 x)(x)/(0.10 - x) Since Ka2 is relatively large, its necessary to use the quadratic formula to solve for x: x2 0.11x - 0.0013 0 x 1.1 x 10-2 M The sum of the first and second ionizations gives the total [H] at equilibrium. 0.10 0.011 0.11 M pH -log[H] 0.96 Learn More Introduction to Polyprotic Acids Strength of Acids and Bases Concentration of Chemical Species First Ionization H2SO4(aq) H+(aq) HSO4-(aq) Initial 0.10 M 0.00 M 0.00 M Change -0.10 M +0.10 M +0.10 M Final 0.00 M 0.10 M 0.10 M Second Ionization HSO42-(aq) H+(aq) SO42-(aq) Initial 0.10 M 0.10 M 0.00 M Change -x M +x M +x M At Equilibrium (0.10 - x) M (0.10 + x) M x M

Attitude Theories Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1

Attitude Theories - Essay Example 22). Katz emphasizes that when attitude is spoken out in the form of words, it becomes an opinion, which may not always be interpreted in the true spirit because the second person can not see the fundamental attitude that caused the opinion. For example, if someone says, â€Å"You look healthier than before†. We might not understand if he means to appreciate the other person’s health or just make him conscious by calling him fat. Kelman, on the other hand, speaks about opinion change which indirectly causes a modification of the original attitude. Kelman explains the phenomenon of opinion change with respect to three qualitative variables which are compliance, internalization and identification which are essentially a means of social influence on the attitude of the individual. Katz has adopted a functional approach towards the definition of attitude in contrast to Kelman, who has explained how social influence can induce changes in the behavioral constructs of people. Katz has identified two ways in which attitude functions to cause human reaction to the surroundings – a rational attitude that induces optimism in human approach towards the analysis of and reaction to the matters and an irrational attitude that misleads people and causes them to respond irrationally landing them in trouble. â€Å"The functions are those of adjustment, egodefense, value expression and knowledge.† (Fones, p. 23). On the other hand, the â€Å"compliance† referred to by Kelman is essentially an acceptance of the propositions of others in a hope to achieve a certain expected outcome. â€Å"Identification† means the modification of attitude in an attempt to make it compatible with that of the group to gain a sense of identity and affiliation with that group. â€Å"Internalization causes people to accept other’s opinion because they feel that the proposed opinions reaffirm their basic thoughts and values. Both Katz and Kelman have been quite

Dog Day Afternoon Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Dog Day Afternoon - Essay Example As the paper highlights he was certainly assisted by the rest of the cast such as John Cazale as the saddest bank robber in the world, Sal and the possibly in one of his most unforgettable performances, the portrayal of Sonny’s â€Å"other wife† Leon by Chris Sarandon. And the many others all added to the cavalcade of this consciousness raising experience. However, the nature of Pacino’s performance and the amount of empathy he was able to invoke from the audience was the primary catalyst for their almost subconscious acceptance of an alternate view of the traditional leading man in the cinema. From this study it is clear that Dog Day Afternoon was made and released in 1975-76 during a time when countercultures and counterrevolutionaries were still on a rise from the sixties. In fact, it was probably even more acceptable now to mainstream audience who by this point had been exposed to the cold war and Fidel Castro and Hippies as well as the social reforms of civil rights movement that occurred throughout the sixties and is still occurring. This expression of a new masculinity challenges the traditional American emphasis on the hard hitting hero with a heart of gold, so to speak. Here in this film ther are certainly notions of some sexual liberation from gender stereotyping.   In a sense, most art, film, literature, etc. have a tendency to push the envelope of the cultures mind and gradually expose their audiences to a new attitude and more expansive ideas of what human being are supposed to be and what they can and should be capable of. Dog day Afternoon gives us an alternate viewpoint, a somewhat more blurry line between the criminal and the hero, the leading man and the sensitive male, so that the audience sees how it is possible to cheer for someone who may not be the cowboy with the white hat and cetrtainly not the typical hero of a tale.

Work Sheet Questions Essay Example for Free

Work Sheet Questions Essay 1) Throughout the selection, Jamaica Kinkaid seems to not be dealing with conflict in the present but more with reflecting on her conflicts in the past. She portrays her mother in not the best sense, sharing with us how she would always talk down to her kids and never be â€Å"motherly†. Kinkaid states when her and her siblings were younger, the mother was viewed as more of a â€Å"God† than a mother, that she was always there to help them out in times of need but as they started to grow, the mothers outlook on her children would change. The kids started to resent their mother to a point where Kinkaid said she would â€Å"rather be dead than spend an eternity to with her†. Kinkaid was left on bad terms with her mother, 3 years with no speaking because her mother never supported her responsibilities and didn’t consider Kinkaid becoming an independent woman. 2) At the time of the conflict, which is when Kinkaid had started to grow up, I could tell that she was very hurt by it. She says how she has children now and they love one another and love her, and she relates it back to her growing up and how everything was so much different with her relationship with her mother. When Kinkaid’s mother was acting the way she was towards herself and her siblings, she had a sense of resentment towards her mother because all her mother would do is discourage and lower her self esteem by all the negative comments being said. There was a sense of tension between the mother and her children, her children (to me) always seemed like they were unhappy by their mothers actions and the way she acted towards them. A mother is suppose to be the best person in your life, a care taker, some one always there to pick you up but, not in the case we are given with Jamaica Kinkaid. 3) When dealing with â€Å"initial perspective†, I decide to always culturally analyze the essay and what is going on throughout it. I noticed that at the beginning of the essay, Kinkaid is referring to her mother as a â€Å"God†, using the word god as a term to her your mother, made me take a religious look on some parts of the essay. When Kinkaid tries to explain to us how her mother is a â€Å"God†, I can’t help but stop myself and think â€Å"she is just explaining what normal mothers do†. I believe she perceived her mother as a God whenever she helped her kids and was there for them and when she wasn’t she was just a â€Å"mother†. I think the author holds her perspective of hurt throughout the essay because she is trying to share with her audience the way she felt and was treated throughout all the times with her mother. 4) Different perspectives exist in the same time period because there are millions of people living in the same time period and everyone is entitled to their own thought. Take slavery for example, in the South there were white people and black people. The black people hated slavery because they were the slaves and were being mistreated doing labor, where as the white people just controlled them. That is the same time period but two different perspectives. 5) There is no perspective change over time. Jamaica Kinkaid starts off the essay by telling us her problem with her mother, as the essay goes on she elaborates and tells us details leading up to all the problems, such as the issues with her brother and not knowing her real father. And she ends the story with speaking about her children and referring briefly back to why things never worked out with her mother. 6) I don’t believe there was a perspective time because as I said, Kinkaid stuck with the same theory throughout the essay. There was never a time in the essay where she had a total change of heart about her mother, there were times when she did talk good about her, when she would tell stories how her mother would take care of the kids when ever something was wrong, but mostly the story talks about the dislike and misunderstanding between a mother and her children.

Human Interaction with Nature in the Works of Aldo Leopold and Elizabet

Human Interaction with Nature in the Works of Aldo Leopold and Elizabeth Bishop The poet Elizabeth Bishop and the naturalist Aldo Leopold share a keen power of observation, a beautifully detailed manner of writing, a love for the beauty of nature, and an interest in how people interact with the natural world. Like Leopold, Bishop examines human interactions with nature on both the personal and the ecological level. On the individual level, a hunter’s contact with the animal he or she is hunting changes his or her attitude toward nature in both Bishop’s poem â€Å"The Fish† and Leopold’s essay â€Å"Thinking Like a Mountain.† On the larger level, both Bishop in her poem â€Å"The Mountain† and Leopold throughout the Sand County Almanac envision the role of human beings in relation to the rest of the natural world as one of exploration and interpretation through science and art. In both Bishop’s â€Å"The Fish† and Leopold’s â€Å"Thinking Like a Mountain,† the person’s contact with a wild animal comes about through hunting. In theory, hunting is a sport, â€Å"a challenge of fang against bullet† (Leopold 129), in which the animal has a fair chance of escaping. In reality, however, there is no real challenge for the hunter in either case. Leopold and his companions, â€Å"pumping lead into the pack† (130), kill the wolf not by skill but by the sheer number of bullets, while Bishop’s speaker testifies, â€Å"He didn’t fight. / He hadn’t fought at all† (5-6). Thus, both call into question whether their hunting is actually a sport. Both Leopold and Bishop’s speaker are initially unaware of the true value of the creatures they hunt. Leopold writes, â€Å"I thought that because fewer wolves meant more deer, that no wolves would mean hunter’s paradise† (130). Bish... ... of human beings in nature is to explore, perceive, understand, and give a voice to the world around them through science and art. They suggest this both through what they say in their writing and by the very act of writing, which is an act of perception and interpretation of nature. However, their interpretations of the mountain’s message beg the question of whether they are interpreting it correctly, or whether they are simply attributing their own views to landforms. Perhaps their works are best seen as an invitation to their readers to explore the natural world for themselves and create their own interpretations. Contact with wild creatures might change our attitudes too! Bibliography Bishop, Elizabeth. The Complete Poems, 1927-1979. New York: Farrar, Straus and Giroux. Leopold, Aldo. A Sand County Almanac. Is Texting Language Really Appreciated? Essay

In Texting: Why All the Fuss? By David Crystal, a chapter from Txting: The Gr8 Db8, he mentions, â€Å"Texting is just another variety of language, which has arisen as a result of a particular technology.† In the excerpt Crystal talks about the drawbacks and benefits of texting. His main focus in the text is how texting has influenced grammar in teenagers. But, are the teenagers really the only ones to blame in this situation? Is it the parents? Or maybe the teachers? Overall, everyone is at fault to the drawbacks, but the teenagers are responsible for the evolution of communication. Just because teenagers use abbreviations, or texting â€Å"language† does not make them illiterate, it is a type of language whose flexibility and convenience needs to be appreciated. Crystal claims how texting has arisen in the technological world by showing how people use their phone frequently. The text mentions how Jan Van den Bulck, from Catholic University of Leuven says, â€Å"Among 16-year olds, the interference was greater: 20.8 percent were woken up at least once a week with their phones.† Also the chapter stated, â€Å"Half the employees said that they always respond immediately to a message.† Texting problems have also carried over into the outside world. Crystal stated, â€Å"Most employees reporting that they checked work-related text messages and emails even when at home or on holiday.† In the excerpt Crystal lists obvious benefits and drawbacks from the over-usage of cellphones and texting. He notes, â€Å"I believe any form of writing exercise is good for you.† David Crystal is saying, that even though cellphone users to use proper texting etiquette, any form of writing can only benefit you. â€Å"Another study concluded that texting actually helps the development on communication skills such as the ability to summarize and  express oneself concisely,† quoted from David Crystal. Crystal also mentioned from the same study, â€Å"Texting motivates people to sharpen their diplomatic skills, for, as with all written activity, it allows more time to formulate thoughts and express them carefully.† There are not only benefits from texting; there are plenty of drawbacks involving distracting users, and health issues. Texting has caused issues with time management, loss of sleep, and addiction. As mentioned, before a significant amount of teenagers a re being woken up in the middle of the night by their cellphones going off. Ironically, there is a medical term for a text messaging injury known as â€Å"TMI†. TMI is also an abbreviation for â€Å"too much information,† which is commonly as texting dialect. In the text Crystal does mention, â€Å"Every time I talk to groups of teachers and examiners, I ask them whether they have encountered anything remotely similar. None of them ever has.† Crystal is referring to children and teenagers using â€Å"text language† in their schoolwork and essays. Crystal reports, â€Å"The concern over texting lingo has been greatly exaggerated; he s that on average, less than 10 percent of words in text messages are abbreviated.† Personally, I am not a huge texting person. I’d rather have a face-to-face conversation; but I’m not going to sit here and say that I don’t text. If it’s just a casual conversation, I don’t mind texting but if it were an argument I’d rather have it be in person. Yelling at someone is easier than to take my anger out the keyboard on my phone. My experiences with t exting and using my cellphone somewhat relate to the point David Crystal was trying to make. I do get rarely woken up by texts, I text while I am at work, but I do not use text language. Newer phones have autocorrect in their system, which means if you misspell a word the phone will fix the spelling error, as you are texting a message. It’s quite relevant, and more people should turn that on, especially from seeing the statistics from David Crystal’s chapter. I’ve been texting for about 10 years now, and it has not really changed my grammar if anything it has benefited it. When I was 10 I used text language and abbreviations, but that is because I didn’t really know what â€Å"proper grammar† was at that point. I have been disrupted from my daily schedule with my phone going off from time to time. Seeing how I am nine hours away from home, and my dad lives in Germany. I do get a lot of texts and calls when I am busy in class, or doing homework. Honestly, I don’t expect anything different; we’re all on  different time schedules. Sleeping has not really been much a problem for me; I do sleep with my phone in my bed because it is my alarm clock in the morning. Keeping my phone in my bed has not been much of an issue for me. I make sure to keep my phone on silent so I don’t get disrupted. Texting has not really made me feel safe. I have been in two different car accidents, and the driver has been texting while driving. I have absolutely no respect for anyone who chooses to text and drive; it’s not just for your safety. I have absolutely no service anywhere I go, so if something bad were to happen I more then likely wouldn’t be able to call for help. Addiction to phones is possible; Crystal mentions how, â€Å"Priory clinics were reporting a sharp rise in â€Å"technology addiction.† I can proudly say, I am not addicted to my cell phone or texting; it’s more of a luxury rather than a necessity. The issues with texting will constantly be an argument, no matter what age, or what profession is speaking their opinion. Crystal proves remarkable points, but there are ways to make an argument supporting the other side. I believe that David Crystals article was more informing than David Carr’s, â€Å"Keep Your Thumbs Still When I’m Talking To You.† Crystal shows downfalls and benefits on both sides to the debate of texting, and provides specific statistics, and quotes from other sources. Texting is just another variety of language, which has arisen as a result of a particular technology, but it is a type of language whose flexibility and convenience needs to be appreciated. Demographic Change And Influence In Peoples Development

Throughout universe history, have ever presented different demographic tendencies and assorted population-related events and motions of this, which does non be given to be stable but on the contrary, both interregional moves inA out of these states as elsewhere, about ever in hunt of better chances in life.A The influence of these motions is big and tends to turn around the universe, bring forthing alterations non merely in host states but besides in the place, so doing necessary alterations in the policies of these states to turn to the assorted effects of the motion migration Were submitted times in the universe where population alterations have non been so great, but alternatively there have been others where migration has increased significantly.A The 20th century was one of the latter because many experts was a century where migratory motions set the tone, seeing that if the chief characteristic of these is that they were from south to north, east and west, looking as countriesA less developed south many people migrated north and most developed industrialised states, and besides the Asiatic continent was a great migration to Europe, the United States and Canada.A This has impacted to a great extent on the host towns, as these now hold a big figure of people of other nationalities with the usual influences both culturally, and economically and politically of class. But these motions have non completed and the hereafter has to be really influential in footings of the guidelines which states are to put off the migration.A You can speak so, that was given a new order in the universe because of demographic alterations, seeing that there are countries like the United States and Canada that have a big figure of migrators from other countries, for illustration in the U.S. is a really big populationA who have arrived in the state of the South American continent, even to talk of a Hispanization of this state, while in Canada the bulk of migrators come from eastern states like China.A Meanwhile on the European continent there are two phenomena worthy of analysis foremost of all the aging European population because most of all to the low rate of births that occur in this continent due to factors such as households with one kid, marriagesA more delayed when there is no opportunity of gestating, usage of all methods of contraceptive method, which has resul ted in jobs in the economic system of these states as easy running out of labour, there is a good venture that lead to the creationA new concerns and besides has increased the load on the provinces due to pensions to be paid to a population that is non productive.A Even states that the European population is â€Å" hedonic † and is excessively lazy to work out what is damaging to its economic system[ 1 ]along with this phenomenon is one that is migration in big Numberss of people from Eastern states, most of all withA Muslim faith have come to the old continent and multiplied in great Numberss, bring forthing as a population job that is non good prepared, no one truly skilled labour to help the production and besides that they have been turning muchA , to the extent that some are stating that in 2050 Europe will be Muslim.A CEPAL has cleared these alterations in the European population by stating in his study of the Symposium on International Migration: â€Å" In the early 20th century population of Europe had, about ternary the size of the African, while today the populations of Africa and Europe are about the same size, but by 2050 it is expected that the population of Africa has threeA times the size of Europe †[ 2 ] As you can see this influence occurs non merely in bring forthing societal alteration in society which highlights the socialization of the states of the mixture of civilizations and traditions that can agitate the national individuality loss values of eachA part, but besides affects the economic and of class political. All this has had little by small in having states arise jobs such as neo-Nazi groups which are against the â€Å" invasion † of their districts pro from people from other states, taking to societal struggles and even in metropoliss like disordersA seen in some European states, most of all by immature people who feel that their occupation chances are being taken by migrators, harmonizing to CEPAL â€Å" turning xenophobia in some states, caused by recession and unemployment has exacerbatedA ill will towards migratory workers †[ 3 ].A But look at the political degree because host states seeking to halt a sea of people, so to talk, that comes to your floors begin to place and develop criterions that can be considered anti-immigrant, seeking to forestall the population becomingA largely migrators, as was the instance of the U.S. in recent times has even constructing a wall merely seeking to forestall more Mexicans from come ining their district illicitly. All this has deductions in both, in the receiving state and the beginning one, seeing such an of import facet with respect to economic sciences, since migrators normally work to acquire money sent back to their households, which is called remittals andA that have become a really of import point in the economic system of less developed states, to the extent that the crisis of recent old ages affect this facet of the economic system by diminishing the sum of remittals due to the loss of occupations on allA United States.A These remittals are invested in betterments in the quality of household life that migrators have left buttocks and there are besides nest eggs in investing, which can take to greater advancement and development of these regions.A But neither can deny that â€Å" south-north migration has contributed to the sustained development of states of the North †[ 4 ] But this implies some jobs for having states like the U.S. and Canada, although the major impact has been the first to hold the largest figure of migrators, since many of them are illegal or undocumented immigrants are engaged in work, which form portion orA the informal or belowground economy.A And this must go on so as the tendency given that there ‘s more to migrate despite all limitations that might be, it is besides clear that the population will be from now on uninterrupted diminution, even the least developed countriesA But despite all this in 2050 there will be more or less 9.6 billion people[ 5 ].A But sing that in Europe by and large, that population diminution, rise in the U.S. and Canada, trebling in Africa. While Latin America, will hold a medium growth.A In general we can state that the rate of kids per adult female in hapless states will be reduced to 2.5 whereas in industrialised states will be even lower, but these will hold a rate higher than for older individ uals, to the extent thatA is said to be two aged for every child.A In general, surveies on universe population and its tendency until 2050 says that in industrialised states like Japan, China and Europe every bit good as the North American birth rate will be merely the lower limit to guarantee the endurance of the population.A But in most states of the universe much of the population will be over 40 years.A Can so be summarized by stating that in the poorest states will hold an mean population growing while developed births this growing will be lower but the population may stay more or less stable growing by migration. But another job that must be considered is that slow population growing that is every twenty-four hours more and more resources consumed many of which are slow to be replaced and others can non be replaced because in many instances have lost the ability regenerative capacity of the land so that resource will be a large job in 2050 doing it the poorest states that normally consume more resources are going poorer, which of class may increase the migration of these intoA more developed states.A A A A AFor all the above is clear that all states, both having and beginning states of migrators to take every one by his side steps to cut down this migration worldwide. Recipient states should endeavor to cut down this moving ridge with new legislative acts for the migrators but thereby bring forth xenophobic hatred and strife that finally merely convey societal and security jobs, should besides give more support without excessively many conditions on developing countriesA that they can in bend offer policies that encourage their citizens to stay in its district. The truth is that a true population policy has non been anyplace in the universe, there have been some stray steps but small has been achieved together.A By states seeking development should hold authoritiess who believe authorities policies that either direct or indirect impact on demographic procedures such as in-migration and airing of prophylactic methods, and stronger controls on immigration.A It should be clear that for states like Canada or the United States, long-run chances depend greatly on economic affairs of planetary demographic alterations that determine the mobility of labour in the international, so that by 2050 the successA of states and its prosperity depends on holding a good work force, trained and ever ready for invention and version of the alterations that are traveling being made As shown in the figures for the universe state of affairs in 2050 will non be good in footings of population, but authoritiess to take steps non merely have to see the figures, but must find themselves personally acceptable rates population growing, migration, and territorial distribution.A And when we determine that is what is right for them in this affair should explicate appropriate schemes that lead to improved quality of life of people. Those schemes have to be done by the host developed states like Canada and united provinces, because there are the most affected 1s with the illegal in-migrations, if they do n't take actions in this topic, the economic system of these two states is traveling to be affected, and non merely the issue of the economic system, but besides the political relations and civilization, both states must make or implement a large strategic to keep the security of the boundary lines to forestall more people to travel illegal to their lands, but at the same clip give chances to those that already are inside those states this would assist many households and subsequently will be the following coevals that will work and contend for their host state. Mostly Canada that has a really low life speciation ‘s, because its population is acquiring older faster and by 2050 will be a really old population, that ‘s why they should maintain those immigrants and had a good political relations of in-m igrations to give helped to those who truly needed in the hapless states, but is this the solution? Or what about if those states restricted all sort of in-migrations, and set up a new civilization with the people that are already populating at that place, doing a mix civilization like one clasp piece and get down a new life, these are inquiries and avowals that are discuses every twenty-four hours by every one, those who approve migrations, and those who does non O.K. it[ 6 ] But the treatment will stay for long clip, because is natural for he authoritiess to discourse this forever without taking belongingss determinations, but when the clip acquire shorter is when migration wo n't hold control and those states will be really affected either if they have many illegal people traversing boundary lines or no one traveling at that place, the thru is that Canada and united provinces need the immigrants to take their economic systems to the top but with high control to forestall to neglect in security spreads where united provinces is really concern and where Canada helped a batch to its neighbour, besides the growth of unemployment degree in united provinces caused by the crisis, China and besides by the illegal in-migration, that ‘s manner they have to play together for this of import issue.

Similarities and Differences between the Role of Women in Australia and China

Similarities and Differences between the Role of Women in Australia and China Over the last four decades, there has been a major focus on the roles of female citizens in various countries. Although ranked behind Europe and North America, the Asia-Pacific nations have strived to make significant steps towards recognizing the role of women in their socioeconomic and political systems (Cotter, 79). Australia and China are some of the nations that have demonstrated evidence of the changing roles of women. In particular, Australia ranks third behind New Zealand and Philippines.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Similarities and Differences between the Role of Women in Australia and China specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Although China performs poorly in terms of empowering women in all leadership sectors, recent evidence suggests that women in the country are increasingly taking various positions in corporate, social, academic and other fields. Arguably, Chinese and Australian women are increasingly taking the advantage of fast growing economies and social transitions in their countries to improve their welfare and equality, albeit in comparably different ways. The feminism movements of the late 19th century and 20th century produced a profound impact on how the Australian societies perceive women. After gaining the rights to vote and to stand for parliamentary positions in the late 19th century, feminism movements in Australia focused on achieving equality in other areas such as labour, leadership in social and civil sectors, business and corporate, security and military fields (Genardini 34). In the modern world, Australian women are ranked among the most learned females in the region, alongside their counterparts from Philippines and New Zealand. It is worth noting that Australian women have achieved almost equal recognition as potential employees in most sectors. In fact, it has been shown that only a few job categories are considered â€Å"men jobs† in the modern wo rld. In addition, a number of legislations have been established with an aim of protecting females from gender-based discrimination in education and labour. These factors have contributed to an increase in the number of women competing with their male counterparts at work and in labour market every year. However, human rights commission of Australia (1) provides statistical evidence that women are yet to achieve the desired standards of equality at work. For instance, statistics show that women make about 57% of the total employees of the commonwealth public service. In 2010, the federal government set a target of 40% of all positions in the government boards for women, which is equal to the positions set for men. Apart from these boards, the target also applies to a number of other areas such as government business and private-public sectors. However, a good number of boards have less women members than 40% (Greig, Frank and White 51).Advertising Looking for essay on histor y? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More In politics and political leadership, the role of women in Australia has become evidence. The political role of women has changed over the last three decades. For instance, a number of women have successfully vied for local and parliamentary positions at the state and federal region. Moreover, women occupy about 24% of the elected members of the House of Representatives and about 38% of the national senate. This is an indication that women roles have gained positive attention form the society. It is worth noting that the election of Julia Gillard as the first female prime Minister of Australia provides evidence of the changing perceptions that the society has for women. In academia, Australian women occupy more than 42% of the total lecturing and leading positions in public universities. However, women have not achieved the expected 40% of the number of professors in public universities. Th is is an indication that males continue to dominate in the academic field. In law, statistics have shown that women have overtaken men in terms of the number of individuals graduating with law degrees every year. For instance, about 61% of all law graduates in the country are women. However, they hold only 20% of the senior positions in private law firms, which shows that women roles in the field need more attention. Moreover, women occupy only 16% of the total positions in the federal court. Despite these achievements, a number of factors hinder the improvement and recognition of the role of women in public and private sectors. For instance, women bear the largest burden of child rearing. A large number of Australian women remain at home taking care of their children and families, despite having equal chances of employment and leadership with their male counterparts. Secondly, aboriginal women are still considered as subjects of their male counterparts in their societies. They are supposed to perform the roles of housekeeping and child rearing rather than seeking education and leadership positions. Like Australia, the role of women in China has evolved from the traditional belief that women’s role is only at home and child rearing to a modern paradigm that allows women to participate in socioeconomic development.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Similarities and Differences between the Role of Women in Australia and China specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More In labour and workforce, women in China perform better compared to their Australian counterparts. For instance, studies have shown that about 45% of the total working population comprises of women (Li 12). In addition, more than 80% of women who graduate from national and regional universities in China find jobs in the local market (Matthews and Nee128) However, Chinese women bear the burden of illiteracy when compared to Australian fem ales. For instance, a large number of rural women in China are illiterate and poor than males. This is not common in Australia, where females and males in the rural areas have equal chances of education and jobs. Australia performs better than China in terms of empowering women to participate in politics and political leadership. In fact, there is a severe underrepresentation of Chinese females in all political settings. While Australia has experienced women leadership, including a Prime Minister, no Chinese woman has ever made it to the top level of political decision-making bodies, including the Communist Party. Moreover, the Chinese cabinet is primarily made of men. In fact, most regimes have maintained a low number of women ministers (Tamney 81). For example, the Chinese cabinet had only three women by 2011. In fact, recent statistics indicate that Chinese women shy away from competing with men in politics, especially in the parliament. However, Chinese women have better and lea ding roles in business and corporate fields. Studies have shown that legalization of divorce and abortion in China has improved women rights (Jeffreys 67). In turn, this has empowered women. It has enabled them to run businesses, seek board membership in corporations and own companies. In conclusion, women in Australia and China have significantly similar roles and positions in the society and family. Women rights and responsibilities have also evolved over time in the two nations, resulting into a new perception of their abilities and roles. Cotter, Mooney. How To Write A Pitch Email That Will Get Your Guest Post Accepted

How To Write A Pitch Email That Will Get Your Guest Post Accepted Content marketers know guest blogging is important. It helps us build topical authority, reach new audiences, and increase brand exposure. However, even expert writers sometimes struggle to write strong outreach emails. This results in  guest post pitches getting rejected. Even worse, writers sometimes  fail to recognize their own missteps. This leads to frustration for over-pitched editors  and prospective writers  alike. Pitching guest posts doesn’t have to be a painful experience. It just takes practice and patience to get it right. Once you know how to pitch effectively, you can dramatically increase your success rates. The key is to take the time and care to do things right.  In this post, we’ll help you do just that while covering the following points: Generating  strong guest post ideas blog editors will want to publish. Understanding how  to  properly write and format pitch emails. Knowing which steps to take  once your pitch is accepted. By the time youve finished reading, youll know how to write a pitch email an editor will actually want to read. Download Your Guest Blogger Email  Pitching Kit We’ve put together three free downloadable resources to make writing successful pitches easier. This kit includes: An Email Pitch Template to ensure every email you send is properly structured. A Guest Blogging Target Spreadsheet to track your pitches and store blog contact information. A Guest Blogging Checklist to ensure you don’t miss a step when pitching posts to editors. Each of these pieces will help you apply the tips in this post. Pretty sweet, right? These three free resources will help you find greater guest blogging success:Start By Selecting Prospective Outlets  For Your Guest Posts Determining where you'd like to be published is the  first step. Figure this out before you do anything  else. Five Ways To Find Relevant Guest Blogging Outlets There are probably some big-name blogs you’d like to see your name on. However, if you’re not already a big-name brand, it may be tough to get their attention. This is where you need to get strategic. 1. Start with industry-leading blogs you already know.  It’s likely you’re already reading these blogs and interacting with their writers on social media. It might take time to get the attention of these outlets. However, it's good to keep them in mind, setting your long-term goals high. 2. Search Google and social media.  Use  industry-related keywords for Google and social media searches (start with Facebook and Twitter). This may help surface more blogs you can target. 3. Consider using BuzzSumo to research other blogs.  BuzzSumo is a helpful tool for finding top-performing content. Try a few searches for topics you’d like to write about. Then, see which outlets appear to get shared the most. These may be good targets to pitch. Use @BuzzSumo to research your guest blogging targets:4. Think about your partners and the products you use for professional purposes.  Are there any companies you work with? Do you (or your company) use any products or services to do your job? If so, check to see if those brands have active blogs. This can be a great way to leverage existing relationships to find guest blogging outlets. 5. Find overlap between your expertise and publications outside your industry.  Spend a little bit of time thinking of blogs and publications outside your niche that might be interested in what you write about. For example, general business publications can be a great fit for nearly any company (if you’re interested in sharing business tips). Recommended Reading:  25 Lessons From Guest Blogging For The Top Blogs In The World Next, Create A Guest Blogging Target Spreadsheet You’ll need a way to store editorial contact information and URLs for each prospective guest blogging target. That’s why we’ve included a Guest Blogging Target Template in this post. It includes the following fields: Blog / Publication Title Name Of Editor Contact Email Address / Contact Page URL Link To Editorial Guidelines Page (if available) Date Contacted Pitch Accepted / Declined Notes Here's what it looks like (it isn't fancy, but it works): Research Each Prospective Outlet Now it’s time to research each prospective target you’d like to pitch. The goal is to understand the following points: What does this blog cover? What types of content do they publish (informative, how-to, feature articles, etc.) How frequently do they publish new blog posts? How does their writing voice sound? Are they serious and professional? Fun and lighthearted? Something else completely? How long  are their posts, typically? Pro Tip: Many blogs have editorial guidelines they expect guest posts to follow. If they provide this information, it should help answer the above questions. These are often found in footer links or "Write For Us" sections. Prioritize Guest Blog Targets Based On Authority Now you have a long list of guest blog post targets. How do you prioritize which ones to target first? This can be challenging, especially if you haven’t had any guest posts previously published. One way to start is by looking at each blog’s Domain Authority. This is a metric generated by Moz (a popular SEO software platform). It measures the authority of blogs and websites based on how many backlinks they have (along with other considerations). This video from Barry Feldman helps explain why this is important: Install the Moz toolbar for Chrome. Here's what it looks like: Next, look for this DA score (the blue bar labelled DA). It measures a site's authoritativeness  on a 100-point scale. You can also use this tool to gauge your own Domain Authority. If you’ve never published a guest post, it may be best to start with blogs near or below your own level. Keep in mind that blogs with low DA scores may still be good guest blogging targets.  They may have low scores simply because they’re new (DA tends to build over time). Take a look at their site, and if they appear legitimate, give them fair consideration. If a blog or site looks like junk, however, don’t hesitate to cross them off your list. Next, list your targets in the order you’ll pitch to them. Start with blogs that offer the best mix of the following factors: Realistic Domain Authority score. This means blogs with a score comparable to your own. Strong topical alignment with what you’d like to write about. Once you have a few posts under your belt, you can start pitching more high authority outlets. Sometimes, slow and steady wins the race. How to Generate Strong Post Ideas We’ve done a lot of work, and we haven’t even started coming up with ideas. There’s a reason for that. You need to know your targets and understand their needs before you can start aligning ideas with their interests. Our 30-minute blog brainstorming process  is a great way to get lots of ideas fast (it’s technically not our own original concept, but one we’ve put our own spin on). Read this if you haven't yet. However, when it comes to pitching guest post ideas, there are some additional points to consider: Make sure your guest pitch addresses the interests of your target publication. Self-serving ideas get  trashed. Choose topics you can write about like a true authority. It’s okay if they’ll require some research on your part. Most blog posts should  require research anyway, even if you're an expert on your topic. Check to see if your targeted publication has already covered your topic. If they have, try to think of a unique angle. Approaching the  topic from a different perspective may still help add value. How To Develop An Interesting Angle Once you have an idea, you’ll need an angle. This means finding a specific, unique perspective on  your chosen topic. Let’s say you’re pitching a blog post about dog training techniques. This is a topic that has been covered countless times. Another run-of-the-mill post isn't going to cut it. In order to get your pitch accepted, you determine you’ll need an angle to make this topic feel fresh. Here are three simple techniques for refining your angle. 1. Find an aspect of your topic no one has covered yet. Do some research. Read as many existing articles on your topic you can find. Try to find a gap or perspective that hasn’t been covered yet. 2. Connect your topic to something that (at first) seems unrelated. This works best if you draw a connection between two topics that share similar audiences. For example, someone interested in dog training may also be interested in cleaning products (to sweep up dog hair and other messes). In this case, something like 8 Cleaning Products That Make Dog Training Easier may be something to consider. This is an unpolished hypothetical example, of course. However, you get the idea. 3. Tackle something timely. Identify trending topics. Then, find a perspective that’s missing. If every other post is talking about a given topic the same way, then differentiate your pitch. Pitches that are timely, relevant, and unique  are likely to appeal to an editor. Not sure if a topic is timely? Try entering related keywords into Google Trends. This  shows how popular your topic is based on actual data from Google. Are your guest post pitches getting rejected? You might just need a better angle: Recommended Reading: 150+ Blog Ideas That Will Absolutely Kill Writer's Block How to Construct a Pitch Email This is the moment we’ve been waiting for. We’re now ready to write a pitch email. Get ready to craft your masterpiece. A strong pitch email should include each of these items: Catchy subject line Unique angle Introductory hook High-level body summary Your proposed format (List, Feature, etc.) References to research In addition, your pitch email should clearly convey why your post will be interesting to readers. It should include, in detailed terms, exactly what value an editor’s audience will get from your piece. Are you formatting your guest blogging outreach emails  correctly? Find out here:Step 1: Write A Strong Subject Line Editors are busy. Give them a reason to read your email. Start with a good subject line. Don’t just write â€Å"Pitch† or â€Å"Guest Blog Submission† in the subject line field without context. Include a hypothetical headline or something to hook an editor’s interest. Strong Example: Pitch: 8 Ways To Train A New Puppy Weak Example: Guest Post For Your Consideration Step 2: Include An Introductory Hook Your opening paragraph should hook an  editor's interest right away. Here are a few different ways to do this: Establish a problem your post will solve. Pose a question your post will answer. Describe a scenario your post will discuss. Here are some theoretical examples: Example 1: Establish A Problem Puppies are lots of fun. However, training one can be a challenge. From wetting the floor to tearing up furniture, your new furry friend may leave you tearing your hair out. Example 2: Pose A Question Rawhide bones are a popular dog treat. However, how were they first invented? The history of rawhide dog bones is one filled with mystery and intrigue. Example 3: Describe A Scenario You’ve just gotten home from work. When you walk in the kitchen, you discover your new puppy has knocked over your garbage can. This is just one of many common complaints amongst new pup parents. These are just a few ideas to get you thinking. How do you get a blog editor to read your pitch? Start with a strong intro hook:Step 3: Incorporate At Least One Detailed Body Paragraph This is where you dig into the meat of your post. Include key details and references to outside research (if applicable). However, keep it clear and simple. Don’t make an editor struggle to understand what your pitch is about. Here is an example (incorporating one of the intro examples above): Puppies are lots of fun. However, training one can be a challenge. From wetting the floor to tearing up furniture, your new furry friend may leave you tearing your hair out. Fortunately, even the worst puppies can be perfect angels with the right training. In fact, top animal trainers at the University of Dog Studies suggest following these five steps  (note: underline intended to indicate link to outside research): Positive reinforcement Crate training Loose-leash walking Proper socialization Plenty of nap time This post will explain how to apply each of these tips. This will help exasperated readers train their dogs better and faster with less stress. You’ll notice this paragraph accomplishes a few key goals: It tells the editor specifically what this post will be about. It clearly conveys benefits to the reader. It supports its claims by referencing external research. Step 4: Tie It Together With A Short Conclusion The conclusion offers one more opportunity to reiterate the value of your pitch. Keep it short and sweet. Example: Please let me know if your readers would be interested in learning about these scientifically-proven puppy training tips. That’s all it takes. Step 5: Include An Appropriate Salutation And Email Signature This is simple enough. Typically, "Best Regards" (or its shorter cousin, "Best"), is appropriate. Be sure to include each of the following too: Name Job title Organization Phone number (optional) Portfolio or blog author page link (optional) Social media links (optional) Step 6: Ensure Your Email Is Properly Formatted There is nothing worse than embarrassing yourself with simple formatting mistakes. Follow these tips to make a good impression: Use a single font all the way through your email. Clearly break out paragraphs. Don’t send an editor a wall of text. Use short, clear paragraphs to make your point. Include a personalized greeting. A simple Dear Mr./Mrs./Ms. [INSERT EDITOR’S LAST NAME] works. Make sure your email signature is clearly formatted. Here's what your final pitch might look like: How To Deliver  Your Outreach Email You’re now ready to send your pitch. Sending an email may  seem simple enough. However, there are  some best practices to follow to increase your odds for success. Find The Right Contact Information For The Right Editor Browse your target blog's Contact Us page. This will help ensure you have the right email address for your pitch. Some blogs may also have a form to complete. Make sure you figure out which is the case. In some situations, a blog may have multiple editors. Each editor might have their own focus area. Do some research to see which editor covers topics most closely related to your pitch. Some blogs may even have a catch-all submission form. In this case, simply copy and paste your message where appropriate. Know When To Send Your Pitch Email The best time to send a pitch email is typically on a weekday morning. This shows you’re up and working hard early in the morning. It’s also the time editors are most likely checking their email. Avoid pitching late at night or on weekends. This is likely to annoy an editor. Don't  send an email late at night, thinking they’ll see it first thing in the morning. Nobody wants their phone to buzz because of a new email when they're trying to sleep. When Should You Follow Up After Pitching? If you don’t get a prompt response, wait at least a week to follow up. Editors get a lot of email, and it may take them time to see yours. One follow-up email is usually enough to get their attention in case they missed your first message. Anything more than that is annoying. They’re likely either too busy to accept your pitch, or they’re simply not interested. Either way, you’re better off moving on (and maybe trying your pitch somewhere else). How to Write Your Post To Match An Editor’s Style Standards Once an editor accepts your pitch, it’s time to write your post. Different blogs have different style standards and expectations. Failing to meet an editor’s expectations can result in posts being rejected or requiring heavy editing. Get it right the first time. Follow these tips: Tip 1: Ask The Editor For Their Style Guide They will probably provide this to you before you need to ask. However, if they don’t, then do ask. Be sure to check their website for contributor guidelines. Tip 2: Remember, You’re Writing For Someone Else What’s acceptable on your blog might  not be  on another. If in doubt, ask. Tip 3: Avoid Excessively Linking Back To Yourself Most blogs frown on this. It’s self-serving and may even have negative SEO implications. Instead, find other relevant blog posts to link to on your host’s blog. The editor and their readers will appreciate it. Follow these best practices before pitching your next guest blog post:What To Do After Your Post Publishes Your work isn't done once your  blog post is published. Go the extra mile with these simple steps: Post-Publish Step 1: Promote The Post On Your Own Social Channels Your host blog will likely promote your post on social media. Don’t make them do all the work though. Share it through your own channels too. Consider including it in your email newsletter as well. Post-Publish Step 2: Respond To Comments On The Host Blog Engage with readers. Respond to every comment you receive. This is a best practice for blogging in general. It’s also a good way to show appreciation for the opportunity to write on someone else’s blog. Post-Publish Step 3: Thank Your Editor A short  "thank you" email can go a long way. A short email or social media message will do. Recommended Reading: This Is The Ultimate Blog Writing Process To Create Killer Posts What To Do If Your Email Pitch Gets Rejected Rejection is part of pitching to editors. Not every guest post you pitch will be accepted (unless you’re superhuman). Use rejections as a learning experience so you can do better next time. Tip 1: Accept Constructive Feedback If an editor offers feedback, take it to heart. Listen to what they didn’t like about your pitch, and remember it for next time. It doesn’t necessarily mean your idea sucks. It just means it wasn’t the right fit for that particular blog. Tip 2: Ask Yourself What You Could Have Done Better Take a step back and honestly analyze your pitching process. Was your pitch missing key details? Was your topic misaligned with your prospective audience? Did you just straight up get the editor’s name wrong? There are an endless number of things that can go wrong when pitching. Make note of your mistakes so you won’t make them again. Tip 3: Keep Pitching Guest Posts Pitching guest posts is an art form. It takes practice to get it right. Don't let  failure today stop you from succeeding tomorrow. Don't let failure today stop you from succeeding tomorrow. Now Write  Better Guest Blog Post Pitch Emails Pitching successful guest posts isn’t easy. However, you now have the knowledge and tools to succeed. Best of luck!

3.1 Assignment - Essay Example His purpose is to elaborate what are the actual factors that are hidden behind these acquisitions. In order to accomplish his purpose he appeals to his readers to realize that it is actually the decentralized personality of an individual that is the actual reason behind his violent acts and not mainly the association or training silently provided by the violence in computer games. He also appeals to computer games’ manufacturers and internet gurus not to pull out computer and video games from the markets but rather to make flexible internet rules guarding youngsters’ activities. In his essay, the author addresses the main idea against his thesis, the idea that it is only because of increasing influence of violent computer and video games that youngsters are getting violent in their practical lives as well. He refutes the argument by saying that all this hype is because video and computer games are being considered as escape goats for more serious reasons. Finally he con cludes by making the point that much more serious clauses are required to be discussed in order to explore the relationship between youngsters’ personalities and video

Computer & application reseach paper Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Computer & application reseach paper - Essay Example These octopus cards can be recharged at a later stage in over the counter stores as well as through the facilitation of credit cards and not to forget the bank accounts as well. The historical significance of the octopus cards stems from the year 1979 when the MTR network put forward a system which brought different magnetic plastic cards into circulation. These cards were employed for single journey tickets and at times as stored value ones. The Kowloon Canton Railway Corporation made use of these magnetic cards in much the same way in the year 1984 and later on these were renamed as the Common Stored Value Tickets. The Octopus system was employed in the year 1997 after three trials had been done on it. Other transport services also made use of it in the coming times and in the year 2003; a major breakthrough was achieved when the Government of Hong Kong began using it. After this, there was the deployment of these octopus cards within the different faculties of the government which has remained like that to date. The usage of octopus cards is that they be purchased just about anywhere and for doing so, no identification process is deemed necessary. This suggests that the ease of usage is pretty much there so to speak. If the owner misplaces his/her octopus card then the stored value within the octopus card is lost and the anonymous basis of the octopus card makes it so much more easy to use as there is not a bit of personal information or bank account and similar details on the octopus card itself. The use of the octopus card has increased with the passage of time and nearly all forms of purchases with Hong Kong are taking place courtesy the octopus cards. The application of the octopus cards can be studied from the fact that they do not require any form of physical contact with the octopus card readers and can be easily read within a distance of a few centimeters. There are the

The concept and definition of leisure

The concept and definition of leisure The word leisure is normally attributed to an individuals free time and what they choose to do during that time. Every individual at some stage in their life will participate in some form of leisure, whether it be shopping, travelling, playing sport or just relaxing. Participation must be by choice in order to be considered leisure. Throughout this essay I am going to identify and explain the different types of leisure and why individuals participate with reference to relevant academic literature. Leisure as a concept is not new, throughout history there has always been examples of leisure. If you think back to the time of ancient Rome, people enjoyed watching and in some cases taking part in the activities held within the Coliseum. Furthermore as you move through history the examples continue; Jousting and banquets in the middle ages, all the way up to what we define as leisure activities today, shopping, participating in sport etc (Pearson, 2008). Whats important to point out is the change in perception of what leisure actually is now, compared to what it was before. During the late eighteenth and nineteenth century Britain went through a massive economic change. Otherwise known as the industrial revolution, this period changed what we would define leisure as today (Bull et al, 2003). For so many people, their nature of worked changed drastically, both in terms of what they did and where. This change enabled social class to be born, and with it increased wealth. This new fou nd wealth enabled new technologies which in turn would allow new forms of leisure (2003). Trying to define leisure is often difficult; this is due to the many different forms leisure can take. Bull, Hoose and Weed, (2003) propose four approaches to define leisure. These are leisure as time, leisure as an activity, quality of leisure and personal attitude (p32). Most people work long stressful hours during the day, leisure time is often dictated by the time we are left with after working and earning money. However necessities such as sleeping, eating and personal hygiene all eat into what we define as leisure time. Under the leisure as time approach, work and leisure can be perceived as being in opposition, with one (usually work) limiting the other (p33). When it comes to activity based approaches, as the name suggests, this approach sees leisure as engaging in activities that one would do in their free time, such as shopping, playing recreational sport etc. The quality of leisure and personal attitude go hand in hand with the previous approaches. If the participant is ha ving fun their quality of leisure is improved, the opposite can be said if their attitude is negative. Its important when looking at why people participate in leisure, that these 4 approaches are taken into account. As mentioned above, leisure and work are often seen to be in opposition with each other; however that is not always the case. More and more businesses are seeing the benefits leisure can have on staff productivity and happiness. This year alone an estimated  £1.67 billion was spent on leisure activities for staff at work (Groom, 2010). That equates to 20% of all spending on expenses last year. This view is reinforced by companies partnering with leisure based businesses such as activity day planners and health clubs to offer staff a range of benefits and discounts in order to increase their leisure quality. In addition to investing in leisure for staff, businesses as a whole take part in leisure also. Sponsorship for leisure events was estimated to be around $45.2 billion last year (IEG Global Sponsorship Expenditure Reports, Cited in Sponsormap, 2009). The main concept to explore when asking why people participate in leisure is what motivates them to do so. Under ideal circumstances, the benefits from participating in leisure are numerous. As it covers such a broad range of activities, leisure allows an individual to do what they want. Linda Nazareth (Cited in Alboher,2008) provides an example of a woman who works a stressful 6 day week. By incorporating a small amount of leisure into her routine, she felt happier at work, and felt her interactions with others outside work also greatly improved. Further to this studies show that physical based leisure, such as exercise or recreational sport have a positive effect on ones wellbeing. This is due to a combination of psychological factors as well as raised endorphin levels (The Reality of the Runners High, 2008). However, an individuals leisure can often be impacted by numerous external factors such as age, race, income and gender. William R. Burch, Jr. (2009) highlights how social class (income) has an effect on what activities an individual can take part in. Activities such as going sailing, although not exclusive to upper class, is more likely to be available to than someone who is lower class. In addition an individuals gender can also affect their free time. Roberts (2010) cites a recent international survey that shows men have half an hour more leisure time every day than women. In addition, geography also plays a key role. In the same study, figures showed that the half an hour advantage men have over women in the UK, compared to 38 minutes in the US, 33 in France, 50 in Belgium, 22 in Germany and 80 in Italy. Persons surroundings similarly can limit their participation in leisure. One could argue someone who is retired will have the most leisure time out of all socio economic groups. This however is not always the case. Just as before, location has a major role on leisure, not just internationally but also locally. As Bull et al (2003) describes behavioral norms and expectations of what someone who is retired is able to do, can in fact limit what it is available to them. Further to this, social expectation can encourage social isolation and disengagement. All of these things contribute to having a negative effect on an individuals participation. Government funding can also have an effect. If the facilities arent available, what an individual may want to do as activity based leisure may not be possible. In addition if pricing of facilities is too high, what an individual has access to will be limited. On the flip side, if funding is there the quality of leisure available to individuals is greatly improved and in general so is participation. This highlights how; at least in terms of activity based leisure, opportunities can sometimes be better for some more than others. As shown, although leisure is subjective, external factors often have a role to play in the choices an individual makes. When answering why people participate in leisure, the answer is obvious. As William H. Davies said What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare? (Cited in, Khurana 2009). Life is too short to have nothing but worry. People participate in leisure to escape from the hectic lives they have to live. Although many extrinsic factors can have an effect on leisure, there is no denying the benefits of even a little a day.

The Sin of Hypocrisy in Nathaniel Hawthornes The Scarlet Letter :: Scarlet Letter essays

The Sin of Hypocrisy in The Scarlet Letter The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne is about the trials and tribulations of Hester Prynne, a woman living in colonial Boston.   Found guilty of adultery,   Hester's punishment is to wear a visible symbol of her sin: the scarlet letter "A."   Through the book, the reader comes to know Hester, the adulteress; Dimmesdale, the holy man Hester had the affair with; and Chillingworth, the estranged husband of Hester who is out for revenge.   The Scarlet Letter examines the interaction of these characters and the reaction of these characters to Hester's sin.   However, the greater sin that Hawthorne deals with in The Scarlet Letter is hypocrisy.   Hypocrisy is the practice of professing beliefs, feelings, or virtues that one does not hold or possess.   All three main characters, Hester, Dimmesdale, and Chillingworth, commit the sin of hypocrisy. Hawthorne shows that hypocrisy is indeed a sin by punishing the offenders. Hester Prynne is a strong, independent woman who deals with her sin of adultery very well.   Instead of running away from it, she lives with it and accepts her punishment.   However, while succumbing to the will of the court, she does not for an instant truly believe that she sinned.   Hester thinks that she has not committed adultery because in her mind she wasn't really married to Chillingworth.   Hester believes that marriage is only valid when there is love, and there is no love between Hester and Chillingworth.   In the prison, defending her actions against him, she declares, "Thou knowest, thou knowest that I was frank with thee.   I felt no love, nor feigned any" (74). Then, later, speaking to Dimmesdale, Hester further imparts her belief that she has not sinned, saying, "What we did had a consecration of its own.   We felt it so" (192).   Therefore, Hester, in her mind, has not committed a sin. The fact that she accepts the courts decision so meekly and wears the scarlet letter denoting her as an adulteress is the first way in which she is hypocritical.   Hester, although she does not believe she has sinned, portrays herself as a sinner by wearing the scarlet letter without complaint.   Over the ensuing years, Hester endures the shame and ridicule brought about by the scarlet letter.   However, the true source of

Problems Facing University Students

Financial Challenges Facing University Students FA120-Skills to succeed Group Creative problem solving assignment By Megan Sweeney (12522637) Anna Heffernan (12743239) And Ross Swords (12344681) Word Count: two thousand two hundred and eight. Contents Page Section 1: Summary | Pages 3 and 4| Section II: Details of the students challenge| Pages 4 and 5| Section III: Findings| Pages 5 and 6| Section IV: Possible solutions and recommendations| Page 6| Section V: Recommendations| Page 6| References | Page 7| Section I: Summary. IntroductionAfter discussing our assignment as a group we recognised what problems and challenges may be relevant to university students. We felt the topic most relevant to ourselves as a group and the majority of university students, was the financial challenges faced by university students. For most students as they start university it is their first time living away from home which can create problems for both the student and their families financially with bot h the high costs involved in sending a student to university and the difficulties the student faces themselves in budgeting their weekly allowance. Many students struggle to prioritise their money correctly and often spend more money on socialising weekly than on the essentials such as food, and often there is little or no money left to put towards books and curriculum based activities. For the purpose of this assignment and to help ourselves as students manage our money in a more economical manner we have researched the problems and solutions which occur in the everyday life of an Irish university student. Statement of the student challengeThe financial difficulties faced by a university scholar are brought about by the high cost of tuition fees which are constantly increasing as a result of poor management by our previous governments, the high cost of student accommodation for those students who have to move away from home to attend university. Students living away from home also h ave to have a weekly allowance for essentials, heating and electricity bills, and college equipment such as books, calculators, laptops and stationary. Many students that don’t move away from home face high travelling expenses each week with the cost of public transport constantly increasing as the government hike up the prices in order to attempt to get the country out of recession. The significance of the challenge We chose this topic as there is currently so much hype being created in regard to the economic crisis and the effect it is having on the cost of attending university which is creating huge financial problems for students and their families attending university. The government has majorly reduced the amount of financial aid available for undergraduates, many students no longer receive the grant payment which has resulted in many young people not being able to finish their degrees. Due to the current economic climate students are rarely able to secure a stable job so that they can support themselves, which forces many students to be dependent on government allowances. Again this causes financial problems for the students as the allowances available to third level students are minimal. We wanted to explore the different supports available to university students to help students overcome their financial problem’s. Section II: Details of the student challenge. For each student attending university the average cost can vary significantly depending on whether they have to move away from home, travel a long distance to college daily or travel a short distance from their home to college each day. The following table gives an indication of the monthly cost of living in Galway as a student. These costs are an approximation only as monthly costs will depend on each person’s individual needs (NUIG Student-Life 2012).Accommodation| 340 euro| Food| 260 euro| Books/academic requisites| 60 euro| Clothes, laundry| 60 euro| Recreation| 180 euro| Ot her| 100 euro| Monthly Total| 1,000 euro| Nine month academic year| 9,000 euro| As the average Irish yearly income is â‚ ¬24,316 (Irishexaminer. ie), the cost of sending a student to university is over one third of the average Irish yearly wage and this is before the tuition fees have to be paid for which in itself presents a huge challenge for a family to be able to support both the student and the rest of the family. With this in mind most students need as much help as possible to budget, manage their money and make use of the discount and financial schemes available through the university. The university provides a range of support systems to help students overcome financial challenges they may face. For students living away from home medical expenses can be a huge challenge as unfamiliar doctors can overcharge students, students can also be faced with the difficulty of budgeting for medical expenses as students can’t predict when they will become ill.The National Univer sity of Ireland Galway has relived thousands of students from the worries and challenges they face in regard to medical fees as they provide a full medical centre with Doctors, Nurses and physiatrist free of charge to all students in the university. â€Å"Only 10% of the student body is entitled to a medical card (GMS). A medical card entitles the holder to free consultation, free prescriptions and free hospitalisation. Students are not entitled to a medical card unless their parents have such a card or unless they are on a grant. Mature students i. e. ver 24 years of age could be entitled to a card in their own right depending on income. † (NUIG Student-Life 2012). This is a brilliant support service available to all NUI Galway students no matter what financial background the student comes from. The monthly food expense for a university student is two hundred and sixty euro, this can vary hugely depending on whether the student is economical about where they shop and what th ey buy. Students can greatly reduce their shopping expenses by shopping in the cheaper supermarkets such as Lidl, Aldi and Tesco rather than smaller convenience stores which tend be much more expensive. And the key to good shopping is lists – lists you stick to. Never shop hungry and don’t rely on the big name retailers that your folks have shopped in for years, turn your back on brand names and only buy own-brand foods – you will save yourself a packet. A litre of milk from Avonmore costs â‚ ¬1. 14, a litre of Tesco milk costs 75 cents. † (The Irish Times, September 2012). The University also provides hot meals daily at only â‚ ¬5 in the university restaurant which can be very helpful to student who do not have time to return home to eat during the day.As well as the academic side to college students also have to have a social life, which can become very costly and makes it harder for students to budget their money. The titanium ents company put a d iscount card scheme in place to help students save money while socialising. â€Å"Galway Student Discount Card is estimated to save an average student â‚ ¬400 per semester / an average of â‚ ¬5 per night out ( â‚ ¬2 off a taxi, â‚ ¬2 off club admin & â‚ ¬1 off food after). On sale for only â‚ ¬4† (Titaniuments. ie). This is a huge help to students in budgeting for the social side to their time in university.A huge financial problem faced by students is the price of textbooks required for the curriculum many of these books can cost up to â‚ ¬100 each and have to be bought brand new as they all contain individual access codes for course work that has to be completed online. Many students have to buy up to five books per semester which is a huge expense and creates a serious financial problem for students. Bank of Ireland is currently putting schemes in place to allow students to take out loans to pay for books. Section III: Findings Currently at NUI Galway there are several procedures in place to help students live off a small budget and save money.Loyalty cards such as the student union card can get students various discounts at numerous shops and restaurants run by the students union throughout the college. The student union card can also earn students money, by purchasing items at any shop or restaurant run by the SU. Students can build up credit over-time on their purchases and eventually this credit can be turned into cash. NUI Galway also promote the titanium ents card which promotes social discounts for students such as free entry into nightclubs, discounts on taxis, and discounts on fast-food take aways. In University College Dublin they offer many scholarships to students which can be found on www. smurfitschool. ie which is the business school in UCD. An example of one is ‘GMAT MBA Scholarship’ ‘Open to all applicants scoring above 700 on the GMAT. All scholarship applicants must already have been admitted to (have applied for, been interviewed and offered a place on) the full-time MBA Programme before they can be considered for any of the above scholarships. Open to Irish residents and international applicants. ( UCD-2012) in a university aboard such as Harvard, the offer financial aid also such as ‘Harvard College has provided assistance to students who need help in meeting their education expenses for over 350 years, enabling us to seek out the most outstanding scholars in the world and open our doors to students of exceptional ability and promise, regardless of their financial circumstances. Over 60% of undergraduates will receive an estimated $172 million in need-based Harvard Scholarship aid in 2012-13.Just in the past five years we have increased our financial aid by over 70 percent, enhancing our program to ensure the affordability of a Harvard education even in these challenging economic times. We understand that the thought of financing four years of college can be a d aunting prospect for anyone, and we are eager to help you and your family understand our financial aid programs and assist you in finding ways to meet your college costs’ (Harvard-2012) Section IV: Possible solutions and recommendations. After applying the creative problem solving process we as a group began to look at the different ways a problem such as this can be solved. While looking for solutions to the problem we researched numerous websites that offered advice on how students can budget and save money. (Schweitzer 2010) suggests numerous ways for students to save money such as avoiding impulse buying, hiding the credit card and finding bargains. While undertaking more xtensive research into the problem and after reading several articles, another common suggestion on how to budget efficiently was to invest in a student travel card; which can give up to a third off the price of all rail prices (Warnes 2012). Another area that may affect a student budget is clothes shoppi ng. Many students can be fooled into buying expensive brand name clothes that they can’t afford. (Waldron 2012) suggests students should shop at local charity shops such as Oxfam where they can buy a lot of these brand name clothes second hand for a fraction of the price.Although many students may not have been accustomed to shopping in charity shops previously Waldron insists the value for students in this market is a â€Å"no brainer†. Section 5: Recommendations After investigating the possible solutions we as a group discussed the various methods NUIG could undertake to help students tackle their budgeting issues. We looked at the offers that are already available to help students save money such as the SU loyalty card, the titanium ents card, the second hand book scheme etc. We then held numerous brain storming session where we thought of ideas that might help solve the problem. We considered various ideas such as opening a second hand clothes shop in the college or a grocery store where students could buy their weekly shopping at a discount price. We then concluded that projects such as this would incur too much of an expense that may not be affordable for the college. Another idea that we came up with was a student discount guide that could be published by the students union on a weekly basis containing information on where students could find the best discounts in Galway on a weekly basis. The leaflet could advise students on what supermarkets have the best food discounts on this week, what nightclubs are offering discounts, how students could save money on travel etc. Referencing nui galway.
